TRX┃MICHELLE CARTER

A seven-time All American and NCAA champion and, most famously, Olympic Gold Medal champion in the shot put, Michelle Carter struggled with her confidence and self-doubt after multiple injuries to her shoulder labrum, knee, and back.

For years, she has encouraged athletes at You Throw Girl Sports Confidence Camp—the summer camp she started for young female throwers—to run the mile in training. With a lot of positive self-talk and acceptance, Carter followed her own advice. In the last week of March, she ran her first mile in 15 minutes with no breaks.

"In a lot of different sports, especially when you're a different sized athlete, people tell you what you can and cannot do. They kind of limit you and put you in a box... Don't underestimate me. I can do it."
